Hi friends! This is Book Club for the Planet, a book club dedicated to reading about the climate crisis in community. Join us this Sunday, June 18 over Google Meet, or Monday, June 19 in-person, for our book club discussion of Healing Grounds by Liz Carlisle.
Hi new friends and old friends! If this is your first book club missive, welcome—we're so happy to have you here. If this is your seventeenth (we've read 17 books together, wow!), hello and I've missed you! It will be wonderful to see your faces and talk books again. This weekend, we're meeting up to talk about Liz Carlisle's book, Healing Grounds.
If you’ve been around for awhile, you may also notice something different—this email with “Zoom links” isn’t coming from Mailchimp. We’ve officially done it; with over 500 subscribers, we’ve outgrown our free Mailchimp account! (And I love you all but I’m not paying $27/month for a paid version.) In the past, I’ve shared our Zoom link for virtual meet-ups in a private newsletter for added security, and thankfully, we’ve never had any issues. Take a trust fall with me and hope for the best as I publicly share our meet-up links for the first time.
You have two opportunities to join us and talk about Liz’s book. First, we’ll meet on Sunday, June 18 at 1pm EST on Google Meet. A Zoom free account limits your chat to 40 minutes, so let's give Google Meet a try and hope for the best!
Second, if you live in or near Baltimore, join us at Greedy Reads' Remington location on Monday, June 19 at 7pm for our first-ever in-person book club. Thank you to Greedy Reads for hosting us! If you plan to join us in-person, please register in advance.
As a reminder for everyone, this is a very low-pressure book club. If you haven't finished the book yet, come. If you're not interested in the other book club picks besides this one, come. If you're worried you don't know enough about the climate crisis to contribute, come. You belong here. Meet-ups will last about an hour but feel free to duck out a few minutes early if needed. Life happens, we get it.
Happy reading and see you all soon! ✌️
